Instructions for completing
Decision Tool:
|
| STEP 1 |
List
all relevant decision points in
the CRITERIA Column. |
| STEP 2 |
Rank
order the criteria from 1 (low) through X (number of items to be
evaluated) and record in the PRIORITY column, using
each number once. |
| STEP 3 |
Identify
all Options and Alternatives related
to the decision in the boxes numbered # 1 through # 4. |
| STEP 4 |
Score each Option by criteria using the following
scale and place the number in
the MATCH Column:
·
High Capability or
Match to Criteria - 7
·
Good Capability or Match – 5
·
OK / Fair Capability or Match – 3
·
Poor Capability or Match - 1 |
| STEP 5 |
Calculate
and record the score: Multiply the number in
the PRIORITY COLUMN
times the number in the WEIGHT
COLUMN across the row for each alternative. |
| STEP 6 |
Calculate and record the totals by option: Add
all numbers in the SCORE
Column for each option. The Alternative with the highest total score is the most favorable.
It is important to note
that gut feelings (intuition) and political sensitivities are
valid considerations in any decision process. The value this tool
provides is only as good as the appropriateness of the priority
given to each criteria and the objectivity of the weight given
to each priority for each alternative.
